Hi
I’ve just seen the post on Twitter about ‘Help Us to Get Scots Walking in 2015’.
We would love to help you.
I am a part time cardiac rehabilitation exercise instructor in Greenock. My group is called the Inverclyde Globetrotters and for the past 7 years we have been using pedometers to help keep ourselves active between our weekly classes. So far we have walked over 120,000 miles to more than 100 countries worldwide without ever having been on a walk together or left Greenock!
How? By creating and walking virtual routes around the world e.g. Great Wall of China
We now have or own website called World Walking (www.worldwalking.org).
We receive much welcome support from Paths for All.
We operate as a small not for profit group funding our activities by applying for grants. World Walking is free to use. Its comes with integrated iPhone and Android apps and lots more.
Over 2,700 people have registered to use it since we launched it last year. Many groups of all kinds have been created on World Walking and over 1 billion steps clocked up so far.
We have supported the Scottish Government’s Fit in 14 campaign, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s 2014 walking challenge and the 100 Mile Club’s 3,000 mile Race Across USA challenge which begins tomorrow to highlight the problems caused by childhood inactivity.
We have just created a worldwide walking challenge for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and are working with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and the British Association for Cardiac Prevention & Rehabilitation on a worldwide walking challenge beginning next month to promote cardiac rehabilitation which in which we hope organisations around the world will take part.
Apologies for the long blog. The long and the short of it is that we are here and we’d love to support you in any way we can.
World Walking was built in Scotland. It’s free, fun and simple to use. Please login to World Walking and have prowl.
If anyone would like to chat with me about World Walking and how we might collaborate either email me at duncan@worldwalking.org or call me on 0775 750 1203.
Best of luck with your mission to help get Scotland Walking.
